十九世紀末的古巴，每個英勇的古巴人民為了保衛祖國的江山，都不惜付出一切，以換取自由，爭取獨立，和侵略者的西班牙人作戰到底。

這首民謠， 就是這麼一個有動人的故事。

古巴東段的港口之一， 就是Guantamo， 這首 就是由當地獨立運動革命勇士Jose Marti喚醒Guantamo姑娘式寫成的歌詞， 是一首歌頌祖國之愛的歌。

1968年古巴難民陸續逃往美國， 當時Sandpipers剛好在那裡演唱， 會見了其中一位難民， 聽完了他對思鄉之情的談話後，Sandpipers合唱團把這首 唱成了暢銷全球的名曲。

當你知道這首歌的故事背景之後，相信你就不會把這首歌，當成是一首普通的流行歌曲。

The last verse says: “Cos los pobres de la tierra”.

With the people of this earth I want to share my fate.

The streams of the mountains please me more than the sea.
