被忽略的郵筒

通常說到爪夷逰玩找美食， 就是吃潮州菜粿，其他還有鴨飯和叻沙。

其實，很多人在不經意中，無視檳城郵政局的十一太寶之一，就是藏在爪夷。

爪夷 ( Sungai Bakap  ) 大街郵政局前街邊的郵筒，被當地居民和一般過路客忽略其歷史背景。

不要說在檳城難得一見，就是整個馬來半島，它是檳城經歷130年（註1 ) 英國殖民地統治後，現存的兩個（註2 ) 中之一個，極具紀念意義和珍藏價值，且保存完好的 “ 嵌牆型 ” 英治時期舊郵筒。

因為現在資訊科技太過發達， 傳統郵寄書信逐步被淘汰。即使置設在郵政局，有些郵筒基本上都只成了一個擺設品。

尤其獨立後遺留下來的殖民地年代的郵筒， 眾多已經不存在了。

不過依據郵政服務法案 （註3 ），郵政服務設置的郵筒設施，即使沒有一封信，它依然存在， 而且還受到法律的保護。

所以還能看到避過毀折更換，僥幸存留到今日的這個郵筒， 讓我對它更加的珍惜懷念。

11. (1) The licensee may erect and maintain letter boxes or rural delivery boxes in any road, street, kampung, estate, reserve land or public place, under the control of any authority. (2) Such letter boxes or rural delivery boxes shall not be so placed as to interfere with ordinary traffic.

27. Any person who places in or against any letter box provided by the licensee for the reception of postal articles any fire, match or light, or any explosive, dangerous, filthy, noxious, or deleterious substance or any fluid, or commits a nuisance in or against any such letter box, or does anything likely to injure any such letter box or its appurtenances or contents, shall be guilty of an offence and shall, on conviction, be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year, or to a fine, or to both.
